There are a few contests I’d like to enter. I saw them posted in Passaic County Arts News, a newsletter from the Passaic County Cultural and Heritage Council at Passaic County Community College (PCCC). This is the first time I’ve ever actually read this newsletter. I remember picking up a past issue of this newsletter once at Ringwood (Passaic County, NJ) Borough Hall, but I didn’t read that issue.
The October 2009 newsletter of Arts News is listing several poetry contests that have whetted my interest. I’d like to submit my poems for the Paterson Poetry Prize, the Allen Ginsberg Poetry Awards, the 2009 Josephine Darner Poetry Award and the 2010 Maureen Egen Writers Exchange. The Maureen Egen Writers Exchange is for NJ fiction writers and poets who only published one fiction or poetry book (self-published books not included), or never published a book. I’m especially looking forward to entering the Maureen Egen contest. I want to enter a few poetry works from the College of Poetry workshop – which hasn’t started yet, but entries must be postmarked by Dec. 1, 2009. Since the College of Poetry starts Oct. 17, I have plenty of time.
